It's
probably the most anticipated tour of geeks this year. Internet chat
rooms across Australia are currently filled with rumour and innuendo
and it's the favourite topic of conversation for black-shirted music
lovers across the nation.
The Poms
are pissed because we got the better line-up, the Kiwis are in mourning
because they got no line-up at all, but Australia rejoice because
The Frontier Touring Company are confirming the rumours are true
Tomahawk, Fantomas and the Melvins are heading to Australia
with the 2003 Australian Ipecac Geek Show Tour.
Needless
to say it's shaping up to be a VERY hot tour! Tomahawk take
the headline spot starring Mike Patton (Faith No More, Fantomas,
Mr Bungle), John Stanier (Helmet), Duane Denison (Jesus Lizard)
and Kevin Rutmanis (Cows, Melvins), second in line are
Fantomas also starring Mike Patton joined by
Buzz Osborne (Melvins), Dave Lombardo (Slayer)
and Trevor Dunn (Mr Bungle). The Melvins close
the deal with Buzz Osborne, Dale Crover and Kevin
Rutmanis.
Variations
of the Ipecac Geek Show Tour have already toured the US with
European dates also now confirmed. The Australian leg will close the
touring year for the bands (we're sure the sun and surf had nothing
to do with choosing these dates!)
American
music site Delusions of Adequacy wrote of the New York gig; "The
Melvins were incredible live, filling all expectations for those
who have seen them in the past... [while] Tomahawk came through
as one of the most intense but professional rock bands out there today.
Listening to Patton scream and wail and roar - with the aid of three
microphones, countless effect pedals and gadgets, and keyboards -
you're reminded of why this guy used to front one of the biggest rock
bands of their day. "
And in
Australia we'll get the added bonus of Fantomas who will release
their Delirium Cordia on October 6 through Shock Records.
Tomahawk's album Mit Gas is in store now.
Tickets
for Tomahawk, Fantomas and The Melvins go on
sale nationally on Saturday 13 September. This is definitely a show
that you will want to be warming a patch of concrete outside the ticketing
agent for!
